Things to do in Chicago: Cloud Gate

Over the past couple of years, I’ve really enjoyed travelling to new places and visiting the most photographed areas. While planning my recent trip to Chicago this past weekend, the number one thing to visit was Cloud Gate so we could see The Bean! Now it’s not something to plan your while day around, but it’s lovely for pictures, to take a nice stroll, and/or to have lunch at.

Cloud Gate, also known as The Bean, was created by Anish Kapoor. It’s made up of 168 massive stainless steel plates welded shut. Cloud Gate was inspired by liquid mercury, and is the largest of its kind in the world, measuring 66–feet long by 33–feet high! I didn’t think it would be as neat as it was in person. My pictures don’t do it justice.. it was so cool to see in front of my face. There were so many people there when I went, but surprisingly, when I wanted to take photos, they all cleared out.

If you go visit Cloud Gate, you can also take a stroll in the huge park there and see lovely gardens, other architecture, and even an outdoor theatre. You can definitely stick around for lunch at the Park Grill (right beside the bean!), or even have a picnic in the park. If nothing else, you can sit on a bench and people watch haha.
