Calgary is a hugely popular place to visit in Canada. It is full of cultural hotspots, outdoor spaces and plenty of places to have fun with your family. I am actually thinking of taking a trip there next year with my friends for the Calgary Stampede! If you’ve been there, feel free to tell me in the comments where I should check out! If you haven’t been there, check out some of the things you simply have to see.
Prince’s Island Park
The first activity which you can enjoy when you stay in a hotel in Calgary, Alberta is the Prince’s Island Park. If you enjoy being out in the sun and seeing all that nature has to offer you, a trip to this park will be a welcome one after a few days in the city. The park has many things to offer for a fun visit such as bike trails, an outdoor theatre and plenty of perfect places to have a picnic. You can finish off a day of walking with a lunch at the Eau Claire Market.
Heritage Park
If westerns were your favourite kind of films growing up, you will feel as if you have entered true heaven when you take a trip to Heritage Park and see a fully living and breathing western village at your feet. It is a stunning and amazing hotspot to come to with your family and you will be able to experience what life was like back in those olden days. You can have a horse drawn carriage ride along the streets or even enjoy a cruise along the reservoir. It is like stepping into another period of time and it is really amazing.
Glenbow Museum
Glenbow museum is the perfect place for you to visit if you love history and you enjoy teaching yourself and your kids about different cultures around the world. It is one of the best museums in the whole of Canada and it is full to the brim with artifacts, weapons, clothing and other bits and pieces from the western days of Canada. You can also enjoy a huge array of art from all over Canada, the USA and Europe too. It is the ideal choice for a rainy day and will be a place you can spend the whole day exploring.
Spruce Meadows
For any of you who love a bit of sport and enjoy the horse racing, you can have some fun traveling to Spruce Meadows which is a state of the art sporting facility which is surrounded by running spruce trees. You can visit here and enjoy some of the biggest events such show jumping and horseback riding which guarantee to make you gasp, cheer and shout all in a short space of time.
Calgary Zoo
Calgary zoo is a site to behold and it is the ideal place to bring the kids for a day filled with laughter, fun ,and encounters with some of the most fascinating creatures on the planet. There are a staggering 1,400 animals in the confines of Calgary zoo including some of the planets favourites: tigers, lions and gorillas. You can enjoy walking around the various sections of the zoo during the day such as the Creatures of the Night/Australia exhibit which has some of the favourites in Australia such as kangaroos and koalas. You can end the day with food at the restaurant with the kids.
