Now this is a first for me – gel nail polish! I’ve never worn gel nail polish before because I like to constantly change my nails. I didn’t want to be bothered from the hassle of applying/removing gel polish. I was sent two of Sensationail’s Express Gel polishes (in I’m So Bordeaux and Made Him Blush) and a LED Light for my review, and I’m glad I did because it definitely changed my opinion on nail polish vs. gel polish.
Sensationail’s Express Gel is their latest innovation in gel manicure technology; It’s an easy at home kit that doesn’t require base or top coat. I first cleaned my nails with acetone to remove an traces of nail polish and get rid of any natural oils. I lightly buffed the tops of my nails and applied one coat of Sensationail – I’m So Bordeaux and placed my hand under the LED lamp for 30 seconds. The LED lamp completely cured the polish and I was able to layer on another coat and cure it again under 2 minutes (with application).
I was a bit concerned when I first used this kit because the first 10 seconds of having my nails under the LED light, they felt like they were on FIRE. It quickly went away, but I am still worried about the long term effects of using this since I’ve felt it each time I use this. I’m not using this as a negative towards Sensationail because it could easily be just me who is experiencing this, but I felt like I should point this out.
I was honestly LOVING how easy and quick my manicure came out, but hours later my nails all started to chip! I was so disappointed because I was so amazed at how fast it worked. I need to try this out a couple more times to see if I need tobuff my nails more, or if I should’ve added only 1 layer or added an extra layer… I definitely need to experiment more.
I think the overall idea of gel polishes and the LED light system to be amazing (super convenient and fast), but I’m not at all a fan of how quick they chip. Normal nail polish doesn’t even chip this quick for me. In the end, I would not buy any other Express Gel polishes since both shades that I tried have chipped on me.
